The Covering Numbers of Mycielski Ideals Are All Equal

The Mycielski ideal Mk is defined to consist of all sets A ⊆ k such that {f ↾ X : f ∈ A} 6= k for all X ∈ [ω]0 . It will be shown that the covering numbers for these ideals are all equal. However, the covering numbers of the closely associated Ros lanowski ideals will be shown to be consistently different.

On the Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski sequence

We introduce the inverted prefix tries (a variation of suffix tries) as a convenient formalism for stating and proving properties of the EhrenfeuchtMycielski sequence ([3]). We also prove an upper bound on the position in the sequence by which all strings of a given length will have appeared; our bound is given by the Ackermann function, which, in light of experimental data, may be a gross over...

The Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski Sequence

We show that the Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski sequence U is strongly balanced in the following sense: for any finite word w of length k, the limiting frequency of w in U is 2. 1. The Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski Sequence In [2] Ehrenfeucht and Mycielski introduced an infinite binary word based on avoiding repetitions. More precisely, to construct the Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski (EM) sequence U , start with a singl...

On the Ehrenfeucht-Mycielski Balance Conjecture

In 1992, A. Ehrenfeucht and J. Mycielski defined a seemingly pseuorandom binary sequence which has since been termed the EM-sequence. The balance conjecture for the EM-sequence, still open, is the conjecture that the sequence of EM-sequence initial segment averages converges to 1=2. In this paper, we do not prove the balance conjecture but we do make some progress concerning it, namely, we prov...

On ideals of ideals in $C(X)$

In this article‎, ‎we have characterized ideals in $C(X)$ in which‎ ‎every ideal is also an ideal (a $z$-ideal) of $C(X)$‎. ‎Motivated by‎ ‎this characterization‎, ‎we observe that $C_infty(X)$ is a regular‎ ‎ring if and only if every open locally compact $sigma$-compact‎ ‎subset of $X$ is finite‎. ‎Concerning prime ideals‎, ‎it is shown that‎ ‎the sum of every two prime (semiprime) ideals of e...
